Mystery Fez, January 25, 1992

Total random thing, first thing pulled out of the box, a great Mystery Fez rehearsal from January of 1992.  23 years ago, holy xmas, can you believe it?  This tape finds us all in a merry mood, a VERY merry mood.  Let's put it this way....I was startled to hear TED asking for the Southern Comfort to be passed his way! There's definitely open partying on this tape, be forewarned!

This seems to be soon after Frank left the band and we're breaking Lawrence in (though he'd been playing trumpet at some of our shows prior). There are three particularly funny moments, and one of them is when - following an epic 12-minute "Gimme Fun" - we all start giving Lawrence instruction, negating everything he'd just done!  If it makes you feel any better, Lawr, I don't know what those guys are talking about, sounds fine to me!

At another point, Hubie and Mike (I'll use the third person here) imitate the crazy Balinese Monkey Chat, which Hubie had just seen in a movie, (probably "Baraka", made by the makers of "Koyaanisqatsi", which gave LOOB it's name).  But true hilarity really ensues at the end of the tape when Ted, Lawrence & Hubie do some kind of shtick with the synthesizer....who knows what they were actually doing, but it has everyone in prolonged laughter, especially Lisa & Gillian who can be heard throughout the tape (in my note card about this tape, it says that this was Gillian's first rehearsal).

Anyhow....without further ado....enjoy Life Out Of Balance truly rocking the walls of Mystery Fez, January of 1992....

recorded at Mystery Fez on a boom box.  There is some tape dropout in the beginning of the tape which clears up near the beginning of "Smile".  I haven't done anything to this or any of the other tapes, these are straight transfers from the tape deck into my computer (using Audacity).  After everything's been digitized, I will go back to certain tapes and spiff 'em up.
