All the acoustic shows, each one had their own distinction, always
surprises. On this one, the first of two shows at this venue, finds
Frank returning for a night - but Steve absent!
These
Ruby's shows took place in a restaurant/bar, uptown, it's a little
noisy, but they were fun shows. I can tell a few stories actually about
this particular show, but they will have to be verbal! I think Billy
Capozzi might have gotten us these shows as we thank him at the end of
the show. It was a nice change of pace for us, let's play uptown, see
what that's like!
This was actually one of the early
tapes I grabbed to digitize....I put it on, heard a lot of audience
chatter, I heard hardly any guitars and turned it right off. I just
gave it a second try, and I see we get the guitars mix straight. The
audience settles down, and it's a good effort! And as the show goes on,
it gets better and better. Frank sounds great on this show.
For
instance, it's great to hear Frank on "Thundersong". We passed out
percussion to the audience for this one, so you get a good stereo effect
of the various percussion players scattered around the room, jamming
along with us. Great on headphones!
Then we break out "Is It
Safe?"....and we can't remember it!!! And yet, it's a beautiful
version! By the second chorus, it's sounding great! But obviously it had been a while.
"Wintertime" - Frank again, really nice slide.
Ted's band introductions are hilarious!
Someone
joins Hubie in on the "We Both Wobble" choruses, sounds cool! Don't
know if it was Lawrence, or people in the audience, but it sounds like
an instant doubletrack!
Tragically, we only get
the intro of "Bucketful Of Rice"! I was looking forward to that the
whole tape, damn! Oh well....we play it again the next Ruby's show,
which took place three days later.
Anyways, grab
yourself a brew....maybe sit down and eat yourself a meal...and pop this
tape on, you'll feel like you're out at Ruby's!
