Bond Street Cafe, September 1, 1990
Since I'm catching up and replacing all the dead links, for today, just an ad, our first Manhattan show since Traxx five years earlier.
Don't remember much about this one, other than I have some vague memory of an equipment problem, possibly the drums. From what I remember it was a packed house, flanked by audience on all sides, we played a short set (compared to what we were used to!) that felt like it was over before it had begun and that we had gone over well. At this time our set always opened with "We Both Wobble", usually with "Return Britain" "It's All Right" and "Wintertime" following. I think we did "The Advocate" also.
In the LOOB scrapbook, because of all of those jazz luminaries listed in the ads next to us, Ted wrote at the bottom "...when you think of the jazz greats!"
Yeah, when you think of the jazz greats....naturally, you think Life Out Of Balance! Nat Adderly, Ron Carter, Sonny Fortune, Jimmy Cobb, Kenwood Denard, Kenny Barron, Victor Jones...Life Out Of Balance....!
Was Lawrence at this show, as an audience member? He's a jazz great! I'm pretty sure Lawrence and Karen Mal were in attendance. And Ward, possibly? Another jazz great! So Ted was right!
