That's how much music City Nights approved of from this date- the rest of this tape is blank. |
You know something must be weird when we choose to open a show with "It's All Right"! We must have felt that going heavy was the way to go.

Three days earlier we played NY Avenue, which you can find here. |
I remember chatting with someone at the bar later, and they had a great attitude....."you guys were great! this was just not the place!". Oh, I remember, it was one of those "you're too loud" places. But why start with "It's All Right" in that case? I don't remember. All I know is we didn't feel like we did much for ourselves by playing City Nights!
That was then. Now? I love this tape! We sound relaxed. Some 1992 shows are super-hyped up and a bit messy! This one is not like that! Maybe because we didn't care! Lawrence plays beautifully on this show. I'm digging me, too (I'm listening as I type). That happens, like, virtually never! Every song sounds well-played, well-sung and, best of all, distinctive. For instance check out this really gorgeous version of "Baby, It's Warm Outside", a song that could sometimes be a big mess!
One of my favorite parts of the tape is when Chris and Hubie have an up-close conversation about the sound and the club! Chris references a similar show that we had played earlier in the summer, Ray's Rhythm Room, and says it sounds better here. This is the kind of stuff you don't get on bootlegs of, say, Jethro Tull at the Fillmore East! Ah, I see what happens, the club pulls the plug on us, ha! (I'm listening to this as I type). Well, let me tell you...that was fine by us!!!! And if you listen closely, at the beginning of "I Owe", you can hear Chris giving commentary about how we stretch the show a little bit as a way of saying "fuck you" to the club, ha, very funny.
Every note of this short tape sounds really nice so enjoy yourselves.....even if Life Out Of Balance didn't!
