If there's two things in this world me and Ted can't stand, one of them's wasted tape!!!
After the lads had gone their way for the night, Ted and I most certainly lit some norwegian wood, made chit chat, made ha-ha, and at some point decided to have a guitar jam. On our minds were guys like Loren Mazzacane (whom Ted had recorded on USB) and John Fayhey. We were outward bound that night, no pussyfooting! And so we basically made a bunch of noise for a half hour, until the tape ran out. I know what you're thinking: genius.
But why "Franzaland?"
Rob Franza hosted a great show on WUSB of jazz and avant-garde music. A couple of years earlier, Ted had gotten Rob to do something with a small section of "A Solar Day", I think he used it as a bed for the "Concert Billboard" or a PSA. If memory serves me correct, we brought this guitar jam right to Rob Franza within a day or so, maybe even that night. Or maybe we didn't, and I'm making it all up, I don't even know anymore! Anyways, we filled what remained of this cassette (about a half hour) with this colossus and, in his honor, christened the whole mess: "Franzaland".
And never listened to the damn thing again!

Now, what we didn't think to do back then (at least I didn't) was to flip it over and play the piece backwards! But good news, fab listeners....I did think to do so, now! So, just in case you didn't get your fill, why not try a little something I call "Dnalaznarf"....?
