New York Avenue, August 11, 1992

LOOB outside NY Avenue, summer 1992.  And yes, that is a Mets shirt on Yankees fan Ted Schreiber.
New York Avenue was a big long room.  It was right up the street from The Red House (where we rehearsed and where I lived an existence not unlike Eric Stoltz in "Pulp Fiction"! Steve & Chris also lived there). At the time NY Ave was the home base of the Scofflaws.  When it was ska night with the Scofflaws, the club was packed.  When it was our night, I don't ever remember it being anything other than a few of our friends scattered around this long room.  With a high stage.  We did play some good shows there, and maybe the band had a bigger audience at NY Ave post-Mike, but that's how I remember it, and this tape is kind of like that, we're playing to just a bunch of friends who have seen us a million times, and who are undoubtedly going to follow us back to the Red House post-show, and post haste!

That said, this show is kooky and wailing and wild and well-played, and all at the pace of a steam locomotive!  At this point, we were playing so much that "warming up" was not exactly an issue.  For instance, look how much we were playing in August of '92!

We also played on the 1st ( Schwartzwood Lake), the 2nd (at NY Ave, we played there all through the summer) and the 9th (at the Lions' Den).  And I wouldn't be surprised if we squeezed in a gig or two somewhere else.  Plus rehearsals at the Red House.  So.....we were hot to trot!

This show has the first "Soon Come", which - if memory serves me right - we came up with that day, literally going from rehearsal at the Red House straight to the club. At this point, all we really have is the chorus and are faking our way through it, you might want to skip this one!!  We sometimes would gig a song that wasn't quite ready!  Also for a few numbers LOOB is joined by not only Louis, but also a sax player that I don't remember at all!  His name is Ron, he's introduced as a neighbor....I couldn't make out his last name, if anyone knows, please email me.....in the meantime, Ron, you sound great on this tape!

Another Chris Ivers master!  Chris can be heard a lot on this tape, even going up to the stage during a tuning break and having a conversation with Ted!

Back here in the present......I know, I know, I love the wintertime, and if the snow don't fall I just hold my head yadda yadda yadahay... I love the wintertime but this one has been particularly cruel. The 4th straight weekend in a row I'm canceling my plans because of snow. You too?  We need some Life Out Of Balance to warm us up! You know they're playing over at New York Ave! In fact if we leave now, we can make it before they start! Should we go? Yeah? Yeah??? Yeah!! Let's go! Sunrise, tonight!!!!  :D
